What I Wore For My Court Wedding in Lagos, Nigeria

If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be getting married in Lagos, Nigeria, I'd probably laugh. But, God blew my mind.

On December 19, 2020, I got married in Lagos, Nigeria. Traditionally, Nigerians have 3 wedding ceremonies. There's the traditional wedding, the court wedding, and then the "white" wedding or church wedding.

Why I Wore A White Jumpsuit For My Court Wedding

I never planned on wearing white for my church wedding, but I knew that I wanted to wear a white jumpsuit with a cape for the court wedding. I'd save the dramatics for my white wedding. Unfortunately, my family wasn't able to able during this time, so my husband and I decided to save the white wedding for the U.S. and just do the court wedding and traditional ceremony in Lagos.

Now, one thing you should know about me is that I STAN for a white jumpsuit. Honestly, I stan for any jumpsuit for that matter (until it's time to go to the bathroom 🙃). I already had something in my closet that I thought would be perfect. I had gotten it for an all-white party years ago. Y'all, if I tell you the way my body shame me for this corona! I gained so much weight during quarantine that I wasn't able to fit it anymore, so I had to shop for a new dress. Mind you, at this point, my wedding was only a few weeks away.

One day, I was strolling in the mall and decided to take a look in Dillard's. It was after Labor Day so my chances of finding white anything was looking very slim. I headed over to my favorite section on any store, the sale section! I found a few options but nothing was giving me the look I envisioned for my wedding.

Then, I finally found it. I found the perfect white jumpsuit with a cape and the best part was that it was my size and on sale!
